A social project visit to Mitraniketan was organised for first year MBA students of KICMA Business School. The visit was a wonderful and enriching experience. Mitraniketan, was established by social entrepreneur K Vishwanathan since 1956, appears to be an exceptional institution with educational and social programs designed to empower both students and community members. The program was coordinated by Dr. Vishnunath V.G., Assistant Professor, and Ms Deepa A P, Librarian. The visit was attended by 46 students of first semester MBA of 15th batch, as part of their MBA induction program. During their visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with DR. Reghu Ram Das, Joint Director, who provided them with insights into the round-the-clock activities carried out at Mitraniketan and its core functions. It’s impressive that the institution functions as a community on a 50-acre campus, with approximately 500 members studying and working there. The students also had the chance to visit different units within Mitraniketan. The food processing units seem to focus on producing value-added products that are then distributed in the local market. This approach supports the local economy and sustains the community. Moreover, they explored the Rural Technology Centre (RTC), which appears to be engaged in manufacturing clay products to cater to the needs of the local market. This initiative likely supports traditional craftsmanship and empowers the local artisans. Another visit took them to the Farm Science Centre (Krishi Vigyan Kendra), which aims to bridge the gap between agro-industry research and the farmers’ community. This could be crucial in improving agricultural practices and ensuring sustainable rural development. Further, Dr. Rajesh S Pyngavil, Director of KICMA Business School, expressed the school’s interest in initiating a discussion for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mitraniketan. The purpose of this MOU is to explore various opportunities for MBA graduates in the field of educational tourism. Such an MOU could lead to internships, research projects, or other initiatives that could benefit both institutions and contribute to the students’ learning and career prospects.
